Before the US Air Force (USAF) became a separate branch of the military, it was part of the US Army and was called the US Army Air Corps (USAAC), which was established in July of 1926. The USAAC eventually became the US Army Air Force (USAAF) in June of 1941 and remained so throughout the WWII years and beyond, until it broke away from the US Army in September of 1947 to become the USAF.

This 100% silk aviator's scarf recalls the pre-WWII era of military flying. Along with a leather flight jacket, leather helmet and goggles, the silk scarf was one of the early aviator's standard pieces of flight gear. Ours measures aprox. 12" wide and is nearly 6 ft. long, giving you plenty of length to allow the scarf to dramatically trail behind you as you soar through the air in your open cockpit bi-plane!
